Route planning

Match the Nadi transfer to the region before booking the room.

From Nadi, Denarau is usually a direct road transfer, the Coral Coast needs a longer road journey, and the Mamanuca or Yasawa islands require a road connection to the correct marina followed by a booked boat service.

The crucial detail is not just departure time. Confirm the check-in deadline, pickup point, luggage rules, final resort connection and the return buffer before you pay for accommodation.

Water and islands on a Fiji transfer route

Route snapshot

  • Denarau: the lowest-friction road connection from the Nadi side.
  • Coral Coast: a property-specific road plan matters because the region is spread out.
  • Mamanuca and Yasawa: match the flight to marina check-in, not only ferry departure.

Orientation map of Fiji showing the main travel regions and their position relative to Viti Levu

Start at Nadi International Airport

Official visitor guidance lists taxis, public buses, hotel shuttles and private transfers at Nadi Airport. Know the full property name, whether transport is bundled with the room, where the pickup occurs and who to contact after a delay. Rideshare apps should not be assumed to operate, and payment arrangements should be checked before leaving Arrivals.

Nadi to Denarau

Denarau is generally the simplest of these routes. A taxi, resort shuttle or private transfer can take travellers directly to a resort or Port Denarau, but those are different destinations and should be stated clearly. Confirm whether the fare is per vehicle or passenger, child-seat availability, flight-delay handling and any after-hours surcharge.

Nadi to the Coral Coast

The Coral Coast is reached by road and can be served by shared transfers, private vehicles, taxis or public buses. Because the region extends along southern Viti Levu, ask the property for a realistic journey estimate and pickup recommendation. A shared service may stop at several resorts, while a property away from the main road may need an additional arrangement.

Nadi to the Mamanuca Islands

Many scheduled Mamanuca services use Port Denarau, though some operators use other marinas or dedicated launches. Check both parts of the journey: airport or hotel to the correct terminal, then marina to the resort. Confirm whether a mainland coach is included, how luggage and mobility equipment are handled, and whether a smaller resort tender completes the trip.

Nadi to the Yasawa Islands

Yasawa travel needs more timetable discipline because the principal ferry follows a set daily route through the island chain. A mainland arrival night is often the safer option when an international flight cannot meet morning check-in. Confirm the resort stop, journey time, pickup eligibility, meal arrangements, payment access and the return time before choosing flights around the stay.

Build a connection that can absorb delay

Use the scheduled flight arrival, then allow for immigration, baggage and road travel before boat check-in. Save provider contacts offline, recheck weather and cancellation rules, and add time for children, limited mobility or oversized baggage. For the trip home, avoid a same-day island connection unless the providers confirm it leaves a comfortable international check-in margin.

Fiji planning terms used in this guide
Mainland
Usually Viti Levu, Fiji's largest island and the location of Nadi, Denarau and the Coral Coast.
Region
A broad travel area such as the Coral Coast or an island group such as the Mamanucas.
Resort precinct
A concentrated visitor area, such as Denarau, rather than a separate island group.
Marina
The named boat terminal. Port Denarau is common, but not every island service leaves from there.
Tender
A smaller boat used between a larger vessel and a resort or shore.
Meal plan
A property's prepaid dining arrangement. On remote islands it may be compulsory and should be priced with the room.
Domestic connection
A separate flight within Fiji, sometimes with different baggage and check-in rules from the international flight.
